The United States defence cooperation with Greece is at a historically high level and makes the wider region safer, the State Department noted regarding the imminent sale of F-35 fighter jets to Greece.
During the regular briefing of diplomatic editors, the spokesman for the US State Department reiterated the long-standing position that the US government does not want to comment on the sale of defence equipment before the official notification of Congress.
However, responding later to a question from Hellas Journal, a representative of the State Department stated that the US considers Greece an indispensable ally and partner in NATO.
The official was quoted as saying that the US and Greece advance common goals for peace and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region and beyond.
The US-Greece defense relationship is stronger than ever, the official said, adding that cooperation strengthens NATO and makes the region safer.
