SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Stefanos Kasselakis criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his taxation policy and for not fulfilling past promises, in a video posted on the isyriza.gr site and on his personal accounts on social media on Sunday.
In the video, Mitsotakis is shown announcing the bonuses to people with disabilities and low pensions, after which older clips are shown from parliament where he is criticizing the then Syriza government handing out bonuses “like Santa Claus” after taxing people heavily.
In addition, it shows Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announcing that the 2024 state budget will bring in more revenues from taxes. Across the screen, Syriza comments: “1.63 billion euros in additional taxes on citizens. We want – and will work toward that – a just, stable taxation system. Without unpleasant and frequent surprises for citizens,” while in the video Kasselakis also criticizes Mitsotakis for raising the government’s outstanding debts, before inviting viewers to join Syriza through isyriza.gr.
Avgeri
Meanwhile, in a separate message, Syriza spokespersona Dora Avgeri commented on media publications of “an illegal nephrological center in which relatives of a New Democracy deputy appear to be partners.” The Dimokratia newspaper report named the father and brother of Deputy Michalis Livanos as shareholders to the center, which it said does not have an official license to operate.
The report by Dimokratia newspaper prompted Avgeri to comment on “the mentality of ND deputies and officials of doing whatever they please, as long as they have access to power,” and to call on the prime minister to “promptly expel his deputy, otherwise he will be personally responsible for a scandal that endangered public health.”
