Athens Mayor Haris Doukas called on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to support his initiatives for the support of vulnerable households, in a statement on Friday. Doukas was responding to Mitsotakis’ reference to the new municipal leadership of Athens while replying to a question tabled by opposition PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis regarding the housing crisis, regarding the mayor’s plans to make unused Athens municipality buildings available for the use of collective groups.
“The homeless, people with disabilities, students, artists and civil society, these are the collectives which I defend and I am truly sorry for the prime minister’s sarcastic treatment of them in parliament,” Doukas said. “Regarding the closed buildings, Mr. Mitsotakis should be aware of my efforts and the relevant discussions I have had with Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Mrs [Sofia] Zacharaki, as well as my public position at the Hellenic Property Federation conference. So, instead of hurling unfounded accusations, I call on him to actively support our initiatives to help vulnerable households”.
