Prime Minister Mitsotakis discussed with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani earlier today after arriving in Doha yesterday.
Both leaders reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the economic, tourism and culture sectors.
Mitsotakis spoke of the positive prospects of the Greek economy and the investment opportunities present in the country particularly in the energy, tourism and agricultural sectors.
In regards to the situation in the Middle East, PM Mitsotakis highlighted the important mediating role played by Qatar in the release of hostages and the struggle for peace in the region. The Emir, in turn, expressed his appreciation for Greece’s initiatives and own role in the region, most notable being Greece’s leading position in operation “ASPIDES”, which aims to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea from attacks by Houthi rebels and whose operational headquarters will be in Larissa.
Finally, the two leaders agreed on a business mission to visit Athens to explore cooperation opportunities. The Emir of Qatar also accepted the Prime Minister’s invitation to personally travel to Greece’s capital.
