As of Friday, consumers will see price reductions of up to 18.1% in more than 3,000 supermarket products when governmental measures are enacted to tackle inflation and foster robust competition across the supply chain.
According to the Ministry of Development, the estimated price reductions will result from a reform obliging suppliers to reduce their offers to retailers by 30%, with an obligation to reduce their list prices by the same amount.
This led to reductions in over 3,000 products.
Of these, reductions for 1,500 products had reached the ministry before the cabinet council that announced the reductions.
The categories affected include general home cleaning products (laundry detergents, dishwashing detergents, all-purpose surface cleaners, bleaches) and personal hygiene products (shampoos and conditioners, body washes, soaps, toothpaste, baby and child diapers).
The reform brought a significant average price reduction in seven product categories.
Specifically, for baby formula, the reductions are around 15%; for baby and child diapers, the average price reduction is 18.1%; for shampoos, body washes, and conditioners, it’s 17%; for toothpaste, it’s 15.1%; for laundry detergents, it’s 15.6%; for dishwashing detergents, it’s 16%; for all-purpose surface cleaners, it’s 15.8%, and for soaps, it’s 12.7%.
