Greece, UN and EU condemn terrorist attack on Moscow

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, to whom we extend our heartfelt condolences,” it added.

Greece was among the many countries that condemned the terrorist attack on Moscow overnight which saw over 100 people including 5 children hospitalised. “We are shocked by the terrible images coming from Moscow following the horrific attack at the Crocus City Hall,” the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a tweet.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, to whom we extend our heartfelt condolences,” it added.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue near Moscow.

In particular, Antonio Guterres “condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attack” near Moscow and “expresses his condolences to the grieving families, as well as to the people and government of the Russian Federation,” said Farhan Haq, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.

Additionally, in a statement issued by the UN Security Council, members unanimously condemned “the abhorrent and cowardly terrorist attack at the Krasnogorsk concert hall.” The Security Council also expressed condolences to the victims’ families, underscoring that “terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” and calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

At least 62 people were killed and 146 injured in the terrorist attack on Friday night at a concert hall in the northwestern suburbs of Moscow, according to information from Russian media outlets. The jihadist organisation Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack via a post on Telegram.

The European Union also joined in the condemnation of the attack through its foreign affairs spokesperson.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, EU spokesperson for foreign affairs Peter Stano stated:

“The EU is shocked and expresses disgust following reports of a terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow. The EU condemns any attack against civilians. Our thoughts are with all those Russian citizens who have been affected.”
