Eight deaths from Covid-19 and one from influenza, says EODY

The number of cases of influenza-like illness per 1,000 visits increased compared to the previous week.

Increase in positivity was observed for SARS-CoV-2 and influenza, as well as for cases of influenza-like illness, according to the epidemiological report of the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) for the period 25-31 March.

The number of cases of influenza-like illness per 1,000 visits increased compared to the previous week.

The number of SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) cases per 1,000 visits remained at the same level as the previous week. Positivity in the total number of tested samples for SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19 infection) increased compared to the previous week. The number of admissions (n=79) decreased compared to the average weekly number of admissions over the previous 4 weeks (n=146) and was lower than the number of admissions for the same week in 2023 (n=667).

A new intubation was recorded. The average weekly number of new intubations over the previous 4 weeks was 2, and the number of intubations for the same week in 2023 was 15.

The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized on ventilators is 12. There were 8 deaths with a median age of 85 years (range 63-94 years). The number of deaths decreased compared to the average weekly number of deaths over the previous 4 weeks (n=11) and was lower than the number of deaths for the same week in 2023 (n=50).

Positivity of SARI samples also increased compared to the previous week. Two new severe cases requiring ICU admission and one new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.
