S&P Raises Greece Outlook to ‘Positive’; Rating Unchanged

Standard and Poor’s (S&P) on Friday upgraded Greece’s outlook to “positive” from “stable”, while keeping the investment rating unchanged at BBB-.
The same international ratings agency in October 2023 raised the country’s creditworthiness to BBB- with a stable outlook, up from BB+, becoming the first of “Big 3 Credit Rating Agencies” to return the country to investment grade “territory”.
Moody’s last month maintained a stricter evaluation of Greece’s credit-worthiness by leaving the country a notch below investment grade status, with the country’s credit rating remaining at “Ba1” and with a stable outlook.
Moody’s remains the only major credit ratings firm still assessing Greece as below investment grade.
The next possibility for a Moody’s upgrade will be in September 2024.
