Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be in Nicosia on July 20 to commemorate the 1974 Turkish invasion, as revealed on Sunday.

Mitsotakis is scheduled to visit Cyprus concurrently with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who will be in the north on the same day for celebrations marking the invasion.

According to a report in Philenews, Mitsotakis will travel to Cyprus on July 20 at President Nikos Christodoulides’ invitation to participate in anti-occupation events.

He will be the first Greek prime minister to attend these events commemorating 50 years since the Turkish invasion.

Mitsotakis is expected to deliver a speech at an event on the evening of July 20, where President Nikos Christodoulides will be the keynote speaker.

According to the newspaper, Mitsotakis’ presence will convey messages in anticipation of the half-century anniversary of the occupation and in light of potential developments in the Cyprus problem, possibly even before the anniversary.
