The matter of high prices, in comparison with countries like Spain, is the central issue of the posting of the Minister of State Akis Skertsos on social media on Saturday.
Citing data from Eurostat and the Spanish central bank, Skertsos underlined that Greece is “the 8th cheapest country in the EU”, while “it remains a relatively cheap country compared to other EU members.”
“The battle to strengthen incomes, wages and pensions, to support the purchasing power of Greeks along with improving competition and prices in favor of consumers is ongoing. We continue this effort with persistence, courage, honesty,” he added.
Greece remains a relatively cheap country compared to other EU members – prices of goods and services are at 87% of the European average. “Greece may be more expensive than 7 countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland and Romania), but it is cheaper than the rest of the 19 member states (in other words, we are the 8th cheapest country in the EU).
