Firefighting and civil protection forces worked tirelessly through the night to ensure the flames, which were extinguished on Sunday, did not rekindle.

The Stamata and Keratea fires no longer have active fronts as of Monday morning, the fire department announced.

Firefighting and civil protection forces worked tirelessly through the night to ensure the flames, which were extinguished on Sunday, did not rekindle.

A total of 145 firefighters, 42 vehicles, two helicopters, and seven units on foot continue to monitor the situation in Stamata. In Keratea, 138 firefighters, 39 vehicles, two helicopters, and eight units on foot remain on alert. These teams are bolstered by volunteers, water tankers, and heavy machinery provided by the Attica Region and the National Defence General Staff.

On Sunday, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vasilis Kikilias described the fires as “extremely dangerous,” highlighting their rapid spread due to strong winds after igniting within inhabited areas.

Meanwhile, fires are still burning in Agia Marina on Zakynthos and in Distomo, Viotia. Firefighting aircraft have been deployed at first light to assist in these regions, and both fires are now subsiding. Neither fire poses a threat to inhabited areas, and there are no strong winds complicating efforts. The Distomo fire began late Sunday afternoon, while the Zakynthos blaze started at 21:20 Sunday night.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a high fire danger forecast (category 4) for the island of Crete on Monday.
