Summer Sales Kick Off on July 8 in Greece

If there are different discount percentages for various categories of products, the range must be stated.

The 2024 summer sales in Greece will kick off on July 8, with stores remaining open on the second Sunday of the month. This annual sales period, starting on the second Monday of July, is expected to run until August 31, 2024.

Consumers are advised to pay particular attention to certain points when shopping. If more than 60% of the total items sold are offered at a reduced price, displaying the discount percentage is mandatory, with the percentage being clearly shown in the store window and any other commercial communication.

If there are different discount percentages for various categories of products, the range must be stated. Otherwise, it should be indicated that the discounts apply to selected items, referencing the corresponding percentage.

Additionally, the way the reduced price is calculated and displayed must not be misleading during the summer sales. Store owners must be able to prove, in the event of an inspection, that the old selling price shown on the tag is accurate.

Consumers should always ask for a receipt. Besides ensuring tax honesty, the receipt is necessary for returning defective products and obtaining a refund.

Furthermore, consumers should understand the difference between discounts and offers. Discounts usually apply to summer season products, while offers typically pertain to non-seasonal items, often from past seasons.

For offers, store owners are required to display a sign indicating that offers are being made. The products on offer must clearly show the original price and the final offer price, without indicating any discount percentage.
