Greek National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell visited the Greek frigate ‘Psara’ in Djibouti on Saturday. The ‘Psara’ is part of the EU’s EUNAVFOR ASPIDES operation in the Red Sea.

During their visit, the frigate’s commander briefed Dendias and Borrell on its operations, which include escorting merchant ships against Houthi attacks. Dendias expressed his appreciation to the sailors for their dangerous mission, emphasising the critical impact of maintaining free shipping passage on both Greek and European societies.

A defence ministry statement noted that Dendias and Borrell also met with the local Dutch commander and Rear Admiral Vassilios Gryparis, head of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES operations. Additionally, Dendias met with Marios Armenakis, president of the Greek community in Djibouti.

They were accompanied by Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitrios Choupis and Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras.
