Big Sports Deal Between Nova and COSMOTE TV Nears Completion

The highly anticipated sports deal between Nova and COSMOTE TV appears to be nearing its final stages.

Negotiations for a mutual wholesale distribution agreement, allowing subscribers of both platforms access to each other’s sports channels, seem to be in the final discussion phase. Reports suggest an announcement regarding the final framework for this collaboration will be made by Wednesday at the latest.

According to reliable sources, the agreement will enable COSMOTE TV to significantly enhance its sports content offerings for its subscribers. This move is expected to not only benefit viewers but also combat piracy, which disrupts the market.

The deal will provide COSMOTE TV subscribers access to Aris Thessaloniki’s home games, currently broadcast by Nova. Conversely, Nova subscribers will gain access to the football matches of AEK and Olympiakos, currently shown on COSMOTE TV.

Additionally, COSMOTE TV subscribers will be able to enjoy Basketball Euroleague matches, previously exclusive to Nova. In return, Nova subscribers will have access to the 2024-2027 Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League competitions, which have been acquired by COSMOTE TV.

It’s important to note that both Nova and COSMOTE boast subscriber bases exceeding 1 million, with COSMOTE TV having over 577,000 subscribers and Nova reaching 432,000. The market concentration is attributed to factors related to the overall market size.

The telecommunications industry has recently reacted to taxation policies, calling for the abolition of the 10% tax on all subscriptions. This tax is seen as creating an unfair competitive landscape for domestic players against international streaming giants like Netflix.
