Greece Battles 62 Wildfires in 24 Hours Amid Intense Lightning Activity

In the latest edition of the Henley Global Mobility Report for July 2024, Greece’s passport has secured its position as the 6th most powerful globally, granting its holders visa-free access to 188 countries and territories out of a total of 227.

Singapore leads the rankings with the world’s strongest passport, offering visa-free access to 195 destinations. Passports from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain follow closely, enabling travel to 192 destinations without a visa. In the third spot, passports from Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden provide access to 191 destinations.

While Greece has dropped one spot from the previous ranking, it has consistently climbed up the list since 2020, when it occupied the 8th position. It now shares the 6th rank with Poland.

Passport holders from Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland enjoy visa-free access to 190 destinations, making their passports the 4th most powerful globally. Australia and Portugal follow closely in 5th place.

In contrast, the US passport, once a dominant force, has slipped to the 8th position with visa-free access to 186 destinations.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Afghanistan holds the weakest passport, offering visa-free access to just 26 countries, marking the lowest score recorded in the index’s 19-year history.

Christian H. Kaelin, the inventor of the passport index and chairman of Henley & Partners, highlighted a trend towards increased travel freedom over the past two decades. The global average number of visa-free destinations has nearly doubled from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024.

The Henley Global Mobility Report underscores Greece’s steady rise in global passport rankings, reflecting enhanced global travel access for its citizens.
