Police records 24,863 traffic violations in Attica Region

Traffic violations in Attica Region totaled 24,863, including 1,417 misdemeanors, the Attica Traffic Police Directorate said on Thursday.

Included in the total were 908 violations for driving while intoxicated; 4,131 for not wearing a helmet; 1,160 for violating speed limits; 1,132 for not wearing seat belts; 273 for using a cellphone while driving; 252 for running a red light; and 63 for dangerous maneuvers.

Comparing the first 7 months of 2024 with the corresponding period in 2023, there was an 11% drop in traffic accidents, while there was an overall drop in the number of deaths and injuries due to accidents, traffic police said.
