The indomitable Petrounias has done it again. With a breathtaking performance, he secured a score of 15.100, claiming the third spot on the podium. The Greek athlete continues to weave his legend, cementing his place in the annals of Greek sports and the history of the rings event.
Petrounias has become the first rings specialist in history to earn three Olympic medals. Qualifying for the final with the sixth-highest score, the Greek athlete delivered a heart-stopping performance. Competing third in the rotation, he executed his routine flawlessly, earning a well-deserved 15.100.
As his competitors faltered, the Greek “rings king” secured the bronze medal. China’s Liu Yang, who also took gold in Tokyo, claimed the top spot, while his compatriot, Zhang Chenglong, won silver.
Petrounias’ medal is Greece’s fifth in Paris, following Theodoros Tselidis’ bronze in judo, Apostolos Christou’s silver in swimming, and the two bronze medals in lightweight double sculls rowing.
