During a sponsorship event on Thursday, Tentoglou shared his aspirations of carrying the Greek flag at the opening ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles instead.

Miltiadis Tentoglou, Greece’s long jump gold medalist, has gracefully declined the Hellenic Olympic Committee’s (EOE) invitation to serve as the flag bearer for the Greek delegation at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.

During a sponsorship event on Thursday, Tentoglou shared his aspirations of carrying the Greek flag at the opening ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles instead. “I want to make my country proud by standing at the top of the podium. If possible, I hope to be Greece’s flag bearer at the Los Angeles Olympics,” stated the 26-year-old athlete.

Additionally, Tentoglou had previously declined a similar opportunity to serve as flag bearer during the opening ceremony, citing the need to focus on his training schedule. Following his decision, the front-runner to represent Greece at Sunday’s closing ceremony now appears to be Emmanouil Karalis, who earned a bronze medal in the pole vault.
