SYRIZA-PA repeats call for release of data on use of aircraft and response to Attica fires

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, in an announcement on Wednesday, accused the government of trying to “side-step” the party’s demands for information regarding the use of firefighting aircraft during the Attica wildfires.

“For two days, SYRIZA-PA has been asking for specific figures on the use of the aerial means in the Attica fire and the government has been ‘whistling indifferently’,” the party asserted, adding: “Today, ‘government sources’ said that the government has asked for a debate to be held in Parliament in September so that the relevant assessment can be carried out. The same ‘sources’ add that the ‘discussion will be held on the basis of evidence and real facts and not political soundbites’. They talk of facts, we are asking for facts. The must give them promptly so that we all have the precise figures.”

The party repeated its call for the release of all the telematic data for the aircraft operating in Attica between August 11 and August 13 by the National Operations and Crisis Management Coordination Centre, as well as a copy of the ‘Engage’ IT system for aerial and ground means and a copy of the minutes from the Civil Protection Coordinating Body meeting on August 12.

“The Greek people have a right to know the truth and cannot wait until September for the specific figures,” the party concluded.
