Seventeen projects to upgrade ports in more remote areas ofGreecewill receive a total of110 million eurosunder the NSRF 2021-20217 Sectoral Program ‘Transport’, according to theMaritime Affairs & Insular Policy Ministry.
The plans are part of the ministry’s strategic planning for secure island access, upgrade of port infrastructure, and strengthening of territorial and social cohesion, and they come under theDevelopment Program for Contracts of Strategic Importance. Some30 portswill benefit under the program, which is bugdeted at 180 million euros in total.
Goals include improvement of security and interconnectivity of islands – especially the more remote ones – and improvements in communication with corresponding Regions and mainland Greece’s metropolitan centers.
Projects will be undertaken in the following island ports:
1. Agios Nikolaos, Crete (extension) 2. Katapola, Amorgos and its connected ring road (upgrade) 3. Folegandros (extension) 4. Agios Efstratios, Ikaria (upgrade) 5. Agios Kirykos, Ikaria (extension) 6. Evdilos, Ikaria (construction) 7. Fourni (repair) 8. Potamos, Antikythira (repair, extension) 9. Kamariotissa, Samothrace (upgrade, extension) 10. Megisti, Kastellorizo (repair) 11. Lipsi (extension) 12. Avlakia, Othoni (completion of port) 13. Mathraki (extension, upgrade) 14. Agios Stefanos Avlioton, Corfu (upgrade) 15. Agia Roumeli, Sfakia, Crete (construction of disembarcation area) 16. Mavri Limniona, Sfakia, Crete (upgrade, extension) 17. Paleochora, Chania, Crete (extension, upgrade)
