Kasselakis Blames Mitsotakis for Homophobic Backlash Following Leaked Wedding Gift List

hens, Greece – Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the main opposition party SYRIZA, has publicly condemned a wave of homophobic abuse directed at him and his partner following the online leak of their wedding gift list. Kasselakis directly blames Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the ruling New Democracy party for fostering a climate of hate speech.

The gift list was published on a website known for its pro-government stance, which Kasselakis asserts is evidence of a coordinated attack. He further alleges that the ensuing comment section was flooded with hateful messages from “ND trolls,” highlighting one particularly egregious example: “Die and burn in hell… commies.”

“The publication [of the list] and the immediate influx of hateful comments from paid trolls was so well-orchestrated by Maximos Mansion [the Prime Minister’s official residence] that it cannot be a coincidence,” Kasselakis stated. “I hold Mr. Mitsotakis solely responsible for all the hateful and homophobic comments we are receiving during this deeply personal moment.”

This incident has ignited a debate in Greece surrounding online hate speech and the responsibility of political parties to curb it.
