Greece has been ranked as the third-best destination worldwide for olive oil tourism, according to a recent study by Compare the Market.

The research analysed various factors, including olive oil production, the number of olive groves, and the availability of tasting sessions, to identify the top olive oil tourism hotspots globally.

Greece, known for its rich olive oil heritage, follows Spain and Italy in the rankings. The country received the highest positive sentiment among the top contenders, reflecting its strong reputation and the exceptional quality of its olive oil. Notably, Greece recorded the second-highest number of olive oil tasting sessions (65) and ranked fourth in olive oil quality (67). Additionally, 60 percent of Greece’s land is dedicated to olive oil production, with tours available across the mainland and popular islands such as Crete, Corfu, and Mykonos.

Compare the Market’s methodology considered five key factors: olive oil production, the number of olive groves, olive oil tasting sessions, positive sentiment, and the variety of olive oils featured in global rankings.

Spain, Italy, and Greece lead the world in olive oil tourism, with Spain topping the list due to its massive production and extensive olive groves, followed closely by Italy, known for its top-rated olive oils and the most tasting sessions. Other emerging destinations include Türkiye, Albania, and Morocco, with regions outside the Mediterranean, such as Argentina and Australia, also making the top ten.
