The revised National Plan on Energy and the Climate is posted for public consultation, the Environment and Energy Ministry said on Friday, and will remain available until September 16.
Citizens, businesses, and agencies are invited to participate in the online consultation by providing their proposals, at http://www.opengov.gr/minenv/?p=13352.
According to the ministry, the revised plan aims at reducing the cost of energy transition by promoting the cheaper and more mature interventions, which will have the greatest benefit to the national economy. This will fulfil the European Union targets and reduce energy costs for Greek citizens, it said.
The first National Plan had more than reached the targets in 2019 for market prenetration of renewable energy sources (RES) and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The targets of the revised plan are the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 58.6% by 2030, and having RES cover nearly 77% of the needs for electric energy in ten years while developing systems to store energy.
Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis noted that the revised National Plan on Energy and the Climate is detailed and serves as a road map “with specific energy and climate targets for the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050, with 2030 as the initial milestone.” The plan, he added, is “centered on protecting the environment and benefiting consumers through the implementation of initiatives to reduce gas emissions, as well as on reducing energy cost.”
Commenting on the plan also, Deputy Environment and Energy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou said it “was drafted on the basis of the least cost for the sought-after result.” The ministry “encourages and looks forward with great interest” to the opinions, she added.
