Kasselakis: Transform SYRIZA into modern European party that extend from the left to the progressive center

SYRIZA needs to transform into a modern European political body which will extend from the European left to the progressive center, its leader Stefanos Kasselakis said on Sunday in an interview with ‘To Vima’ newspaper.

He also addressed a call for cooperation to all progressive forces.

Kasselakis harshly criticized the prime minister and accused the government of “democratic and institutional deficit and economic decline.”

Regarding SYRIZA, he noted that “citizens are asking us to turn to governability and realism.”

 He clarified that “the modern Left is not hostile to an open economy, but clearly opposes the neoliberal narrative that the ‘invisible hand of the market’ will correct the distortions in the economy” and added: “It is necessary to move to the economy of security, strengthening the role of the state in the economy, with a new-Keynesian model, which will maintain the volume of public spending … A necessary condition is the formation of an active and ‘smart’ state, which will redirect – without shrinking – public spending where there is a real need.”
