A total of 950 new, modern, fully accessible buses by the summer of 2025 will strenghten urban transport in Attica, according to Ministry of Transport’s timeline.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday visited the Attica Urban Transport Organization (OASA) depot in Koropi, from where the first 30 new buses from a total of 211, which in their full development will serve 63 suburban lines, started running in areas of Eastern Attica of Attica.

Government sources said that Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras and Deputy Minister Vassilis Economou about the timetable for strengthening urban transport in Attica with a total of 950 new, modern, fully accessible buses by the summer of 2025, for the densification of routes and the provision of better quality services to citizens.

“The government has launched a very large effort to renew and modernise the fleet of urban buses and suburban buses, the routes that cover the eastern Attica region as a whole. And what you see today are the first 30 new buses, which are already in the streets of eastern Attica. It is only a small part of a big effort, which will eventually result in the summer of 2025 in Attica in total of 950 new buses”, underlined the Prime Minister speaking to the public broadcaster ERT.

“And when we talk about new buses, we’re talking about buses with modern anti-pollution technology, we’re talking about buses that are completely accessible to our fellow citizens with disabilities, we’re talking about air-conditioned buses, buses that are absolutely safe and that essentially upgrade the quality of the services provided”, Mitsotakis said.

Moreover the prime minister pointed out that “this government has systematically invested in public transport, many different tenders are being launched in order to be able to reach this result. These are complex competitions that need their time to be implemented, but I believe that in the coming months our fellow citizens in Attica will begin to see a noticeable difference in the quality of the transport services provided.”
