The Tourism Department of the Municipality of Volos has temporarily withdrawn the Blue Flag status

The Tourism Department of the Municipality of Volos has temporarily withdrawn the Blue Flag status from six beaches due to the presence of a large number of dead fish in the Pagasitikos Gulf. This decision aims to protect swimmers and uphold the integrity of the “Blue Flag 2024” program by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

The affected beaches are Plakes, Anavros, Alykes, Amfanon, Amaryllida, and Kritharia. According to local authorities and as reported by Lifo, the issue is attributed to fish moving from Lake Karla to the Pagasitikos Gulf, where they die due to changes in water salinity.

The Blue Flag program will be reinstated for all beaches in the municipality once the issue is resolved and the waters are deemed safe for swimming, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.
