According to ANA, the pilot phase of the Digital Work Card will commence on Wednesday in the tourism and food service sectors.
As stated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the full implementation of this measure is scheduled for March 1, 2025. This timeline provides businesses in these sectors ample opportunity to adapt to the new requirements and address any potential issues that may arise.
Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus announced that webinars would be conducted across various locations in Greece during the transition period leading up to full implementation.
The Digital Work Card safeguards workers’ rights by monitoring working hours in real time and ensuring accurate compensation. Currently, the measure covers approximately 750,000 employees in sectors such as banking, large supermarkets, insurance, security firms, and public utilities, involving around 73,000 businesses. Once the card is extended to the food service and tourism sectors, the total number of employees benefiting from the Digital Work Card is expected to reach approximately 1,500,000.
