Noteworthy landmarks now illuminated include the fountain in front of the Town Hall, the bell tower of the Church of St. George in Kastania, Panagia Square, and the Trihona School and Square.
The Mayor of Meteora, Lefteris Avramopoulos, discussed the program with Athens Voice, emphasizing its impact on the nighttime landscape. “From the very first day of our administration, our goal has been to bring more light into the lives of our residents,” said Avramopoulos.
“Together with my team, we developed the ‘Light Everywhere’ plan to illuminate key areas of our region, creating a sense of safety and openness for residents and visitors. We are pleased that this initiative has already had results, with many village leaders following our model and taking similar actions. Improving daily life, which directly affects the quality of life of our citizens, is a fundamental duty of any municipal administration.”
The transformation is not just about aesthetics; it’s about enhancing public safety and community well-being. As the Mayor notes, “Every new light we turn on opens a chapter of hope and reduces factors contributing to criminal behaviour.”
Meteora’s breathtaking rock formations, now lit up at night, captivate both locals and visitors even more than before.
