Celebrating a Decade of Golf and Maritime Excellence: Highlights from the 10th Greek Maritime Golf Event

For the past decade, golf and maritime have forged a strong partnership, with the Greek Maritime Golf Event exemplifying this union. Over the last ten years, this premier event has showcased the beauty of the Olympic sport and provided crucial support to non-profit organizations in need. The 10th-anniversary celebration occurred from September 5-8, 2024, at Costa Navarino, Greece’s top golf destination, and brought together leading global maritime executives for an unforgettable three-day event.

A Decade of Excellence: The Greek Maritime Golf Event

The Greek Maritime Golf Event has become a landmark occasion in the golf and maritime worlds. This year’s tournament saw over 90 top maritime executives forming 23 teams of four, competing amidst the stunning backdrop of Costa Navarino, which was named the “World’s Best Golf Venue” at the World Golf Awards 2023. Players enjoyed rounds of golf among century-old olive trees with spectacular views of the Ionian Sea, the historic Bay of Navarino, and the picturesque port of Pylos. The event included two shotgun scrambles—one on September 6 at the International Olympic Academy Golf Course and another on September 7 at The Hills Course.

Non-golfers were also invited to participate in the Golf Clinic at The Hills Course, led by esteemed Greek PGA golfer and tournament organizer Thanos Karantzias and welcomed by Costa Navarino Golf’s General Manager, Mr. David Ashington.

Exceptional Experiences and Luxurious Hospitality

The event featured a variety of exquisite experiences for participants. Golfers enjoyed various refreshments, including La Cucina Italiana’s pizza, authentic Greek souvlaki and burgers from Poseidonia Restaurant, and fresh fruits from Messinia. Hydration was taken care of with premium μ. Artisan Water and participants savoured Budweiser Budvar beer, Athi Rodi juice, and Messinian Spa sunscreens enriched with Kalamata olive oil.

Thanos Karantzias, the renowned Greek PGA golfer and event organizer, expressed his deep appreciation for the event’s evolution over the past decade. He highlighted the enduring passion of the maritime community for golf and extended his gratitude to all sponsors, supporters, and the Costa Navarino golf team for their contributions.

Supporting a Worthy Cause

In line with its tradition, the Greek Maritime Golf Event supported the Parents’ Association of Children with Cancer, “Floga.” Participants had the opportunity to contribute to the association during the tournament and awards ceremony, with the collected funds aiding in the fight for better care for children with cancer and their families. Ms. Eleni Feretou represented the association. Notable auction items included a unique Tiffany-colored humidor and a cigar ashtray designed by Karnabakos, purchased by Mr. Konstantinos Economou, CEO of Marine Tours Group.

Unforgettable Evenings

The event featured two spectacular evenings. On September 6, the Welcome Cocktail by Marine Tours offered a sophisticated atmosphere with violin music and unique Grey Goose cocktails. On September 7, Teddy’s Speakeasy’s Awards Gala showcased a memorable evening with awards presented by EuroLeague legend Joe Arlauckas. The gala celebrated the contributions of longstanding supporters and honoured Mr Theofilos Xenakoudis of IRI/The Marshall Islands Registry with a special award.

Celebrating Success

The tournament concluded with exciting wins: the team of Economou, Kechagias, Kontaxakis, and Tziotis claimed first place. Awards were also given for “Closest to the Pin” and “Longest Drive,” with winners receiving gifts from Teddy’s Speakeasy and premium spirits, fine dining experiences, and golf accessories. All participants were presented with a gift bag from sponsors and wore official event shirts by Under Armour, with VIP transportation provided by SIXT.
