Art Athina 2024 at Zappeion Mansion

Art Athina, the cornerstone of Athens’ cultural scene, returns for its 30th edition from September 19 to 23, 2024, at the historic Zappeion Mansion. Recognized as Greece’s largest and one of Europe’s oldest art fairs, Art Athina 2024 promises to be a groundbreaking event featuring 71 art galleries from Greece and abroad.

Organized by the Panhellenic Association of Art Galleries and under the patronage of President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, this year’s fair emphasizes contemporary art and design with a strong focus on diversity, inclusion, and sustainability. Art Athina is renowned for its vibrant presentations, innovative projects, and strategic partnerships, reinforcing Athens’ status as a cultural hub.

The fair showcases a wide range of artistic expressions and transforms the Zappeion Mansion and its surroundings into a dynamic space for art. Art Athina 2024 will extend beyond the main hall to include the Aegli open-air film theatre and surrounding areas.

Highlights of this year’s fair include:

• Design: A focus on blending traditional Greek techniques with modern design, creating aesthetically diverse objects.
• Projects: Independent art spaces, non-profit cultural organizations, artist-run galleries, studios, and emerging galleries.
• Talks: Discussions on the relationship between galleries and artists from an international perspective.
• Videos: Works addressing social and political themes related to environmental issues and sexuality.
• Performances: Showcasing themes of freedom, identity, community dynamics, and concepts of ecology and sustainability.
• Kids’ Educational Program: Workshops for children in painting, collage, architecture, mixed media, and theatrical play to increase environmental awareness.

For the third consecutive year, Art Athina, in collaboration with MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona, will present the Art Athina Young Artist Award. This accolade supports young Greek artists under 45 who have held at least one solo exhibition. Last year’s recipient, Stefania Strouza, is featured at Gallery a. antonopoulou.art and MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona.
