Greek Defense Minister Announces Changes to Military Services
Athens, Greece – In a speech during the swearing-in ceremony of a new class of conscripts at the Thebes training center, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias unveiled a series of changes to the Hellenic Army’s services for the coming year.
“We will focus primarily on intensive operational training, but soldiers will also gain knowledge that will prepare them for modern challenges,” Dendias stated. “This will involve the development of essential horizontal skills for survival in modern operations, as well as certified specialties.”
Dendias explained that these changes are part of “Agenda 2030” and aim to equip soldiers with a new skillset valuable both for their military service and future professional careers as civilians.
The announced changes include the development of certified skills, as well as the provision of new uniforms and gear to ensure adaptation to contemporary military needs. Dendias, the former Foreign Minister, also revealed that a new voluntary military service program for women will be implemented.
Upgrades to the soldiers’ equipment include a modern helmet, protective goggles, knee pads, elbow pads, harnesses, and a different canteen. “These upgrades will lead to the modern soldier and, ultimately, a modern army,” Dendias underlined.
