As tensions escalate in Israel and Lebanon following Iranian missile attacks, Cyprus has emerged as a primary destination for those seeking safety. The island nation is seeing a surge in arrivals by both air and sea, primarily from Israel but also including Lebanese citizens facing limited travel options.

Hermes Airports reports a significant increase in passenger volume from Tel Aviv, with flights operating at near full capacity. While many of these flights were initially intended for tourists celebrating Rosh Hashanah, they are now primarily carrying Israelis seeking refuge. Larnaca Airport alone has handled thousands of diverted passengers in recent days.

Lebanese nationals face a more challenging evacuation due to suspended flights. Middle East Airlines remains the only carrier operating flights from Beirut to Larnaca. This has led to a surge in maritime traffic, with yachts and boats arriving at Cypriot marinas carrying those fleeing the conflict, particularly European citizens not requiring visas. Some operators are even advertising sea journeys to Cyprus on social media, with prices ranging in the thousands of dollars.

Despite the influx, arriving individuals express relief at finding safety. Local hotels report a significant increase in bookings from Israelis and Lebanese seeking temporary refuge. However, the situation underscores the urgent need for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
