Androulakis calls on 300,000 PASOK voters to show up for second round

PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) candidate for leadership Nikos Androulakis called on 300,000 voters of the first round this past Sunday to also vote in the second round this coming Sunday.

“We want a new great attendance,” Androulakis said in statements to Skai FM. “It is worth participating, it is worth taking the fate of the party in your hands. As you did the first Sunday.”

Androulakis also issued a call of unity in terms of other candidates, saying ahead of his battle for leadership with Haris Doukas that he will pursue party unity “from the very next day”, and fight together to make PASOK strong. “Greece needs a change of page. If we do not manage, then nobody else can,” he asserted.

The incumbent PASOK leader, said of his fellow candidates, “We have concerns in common, my fellow candidates and I. There are no differences. We will move together, we will all be together, and obviously every one in a sector where they can contribute to the party. There is no other way.”

Referring to a talk he had with fellow candiadate Pavlos Geroulanos earlier on Tuesday, he expressed the hope they will work together more closely. “I want to tell you that Pavlos Geroulakis was in a significant sector in Parliament, the Economy Sector, responsible for the Recovery Fund, a great funding tool that New Democracy has made a mess of,” he said.

Among other things he said, Androulakis revealed that one of his first priorities will be to convene a large congress on local government. “If you look at what Portugal did, it shows that some countries see deficits and run faster. We threw responsibilities to local government without funding. Citizens want better services, because local government is continually on their side, but there are no options. Personally, I tabled related proposals at the Thessaloniki International Fair. We must find solutions,” he added.
