Sakellaropoulou calls for strong coordinated European Policy at 19th Arraiolos Group Summit in Poland

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, speaking from Krakow during the 19th Informal Summit of the Arraiolos Group, emphasized the need for a coordinated and robust European policy in the face of ongoing threats and challenges.

Sakellaropoulou stressed that continuous consultations and cooperation at all levels are necessary. She described the Arraiolos Group meeting as a constructive platform for dialogue on the most pressing issues of the current period. She further noted that the global security environment is deteriorating unpredictably, with nationalism, revisionism and transnational challenges such as terrorism, migration, natural disasters, cyber warfare and hybrid warfare threatening peace, stability, and social cohesion.

She also reiterated that “the Russian aggressive war against Ukraine and the ongoing crisis in the Middle East highlight the need for a coordinated and strong European policy.”

Referring to the agenda discussed at the Arraiolos Group meeting, Sakellaropoulou pointed out that “we focused on these issues, while also emphasizing the importance of our cooperation within NATO, the longest-standing and most effective defense alliance in history.” Sakellaropoulou added that “we underscored the need for close cooperation with the US, while stressing that a stronger and strategically autonomous Europe does not undermine our commitments to collective security based on the North Atlantic Treaty.
