City of Athens announces schedule of new free tours in October

Πρόκειται για τη μοναδική έκθεση που τιμά ταυτόχρονα τις δύο επετείους-ορόσημα για την πόλη και τη χώρα, τα 50 χρόνια από την αποκατάσταση της δημοκρατίας το 1974 και τα 80 χρόνια από την απελευθέρωση της Αθήνας από τη ναζιστική κατοχή το 1944. Σε σχεδιασμό και υλοποίηση από την Τεχνόπολη Δήμου Αθηναίων σε συνεργασία με τα Αρχεία Σύγχρονης Κοινωνικής Ιστορίας (ΑΣΚΙ), τα Γενικά Αρχεία του Κράτους και το Ιστορικό Αρχείο του Δήμου Αθηναίων, η έκθεση φιλοξενείται σε έναν χώρο ιδιαίτερης ιστορικής σημασίας, στην καρδιά της Αθήνας. Το Κέντρο Τεχνών του Οργανισμού Πολιτισμού, Αθλητισμού και Νεολαίας του Δήμου Αθηναίων (ΟΠΑΝΔΑ) στο Πάρκο Ελευθερίας, εντάσσεται στον μνημειακό χώρο των παλιών κρατητηρίων του Διοικητηρίου της ΕΑΤ – ΕΣΑ και πλέον αποτελεί έναν σπουδαίο χώρο πολιτισμού, μια εστία ελεύθερου λόγου, δημιουργίας και πολιτιστικής αναγέννησης. The popular and free tours of Athens by licensed tour guides are back, the Municipality of Athens announced on Tuesday.

The popular and free tours of Athens by licensed tour guides are back, the Municipality of Athens announced on Tuesday.

Starting on the weekend of October 12-13, the current schedule will continue to October 30, in collaboration between the city’s Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth (OPANDA) and the Association of Licensed Tourist Guides.

In addition, two special tours will take place in the Pangrati neighborhood and the center of Athens, in the context of the anniversary events “1974 & 1944: Athens celebrates its liberation”, commemorating the fall of the dictatorship and Athens’ liberation from the Germans.

Free tours can be booked on the https://opandaxenagiseis.gr/ platform. Participants are responsible for paying entrance fees at museums and archaeological sites.

All tours are in Greek. The schedule is as follows:

– Saturday, October 12: “RESISTANCE ACTION IN THE CENTER OF ATHENS, SABOTAGE AND PROTEST RALLIES IN OCCUPIED ATHENS” At 11:00, at place to be announced. (Maximum 50 participants).

– Sunday, October 13: ANCIENT AGORA At 10:30, at the site’s entrance on Adrianou Street (max. 40).

– Wednesday, October 16: ACROPOLIS MUSEUM At 17:00, at the entrance to the Museum (max. 25)

– Saturday, October 19 (5 separate tours): KERAMEIKOS CEMETERY At 10:00, at the entrance to the archaeological site (max. 40) ROMAN AGORA At 10:00, at the entrance to the archaeological site, Gate of Athena Archigetis (max. 40) FIRST CEMETERY OF ATHENS, AN OUTDOOR SCULPTURAL GALLERY At 10:30, at the main entrance, end of Anapafseos Street (max. 40) NATIONAL SCULPTURE GALLERY At 10:30, at the gallery’s entrance, Alsos Stratou at Goudi (max. 25) PANGRATI DURING THE OCCUPATION At 11:00, at place to be announced (max. 50)

– Friday, October 25: NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM, Egyptian Collection At 18:00, at the Museum entrance (max. 25)
