Greece is on track to become a leading luxury travel destination, thanks to its rich natural and cultural heritage, according to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.

Speaking at the 2nd Luxury Tourism Conference on Santorini, Kefalogianni highlighted luxury tourism as a top priority for the government, with a focus on enhancing the tourism experience while ensuring sustainability.

The conference, held from October 12-13 and organised by Update Entertainment, brought together industry experts to discuss Greece’s growing role in the global luxury tourism market. Experts noted that today’s luxury travellers seek more than just high-end accommodations—they are drawn to unique, personalised experiences that showcase Greek culture, gastronomy, and natural beauty.

Kefalogianni outlined government initiatives to improve infrastructure, streamline licensing, and upgrade services to cater to high-end visitors. These efforts are supported by resources from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, aimed at developing marinas, spa facilities, and other high-demand services. The minister also emphasised plans to diversify Greece’s tourism offerings, including ski resorts, wine-tasting, scuba diving, and gastronomy.

Christina Tetradi, Vice President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, underscored the importance of authentic Greek hospitality in delivering a luxury experience. She noted the Chamber’s collaboration with the Education Ministry to introduce programs that foster a culture of hospitality among young students.

The conference also addressed the challenges posed by climate change. Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos stressed the need for a comprehensive crisis management system, calling for collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure resilience in the face of environmental crises.
