Two Greek bars in the World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 list – One in the Top 10

The award ceremony of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 took place in Madrid. This year, the list includes bars from 28 cities around the world and 16 new entries.

For the first time this year, at the top of the world’s best bars, is Handshake Speakeasy from Mexico. Located in Mexico City, in Colonia Juárez, the bar features a collection of vintage spirits and a tremendously interesting cocktail menu.

Europe’s best bar is Sips (3rd place) in Barcelona, while for another year, the UK performed exceptionally well, with five bars in the top 50.

In London, we find Tayēr + Elementary (4th place), Connaught Bar (13th place), Satan’s Whiskers (29th place), and Scarfes Bar (37th place).

Finally, Panda & Sons stood out in Edinburgh (30th place).

The Greek bars that stood out

We are used to seeing Greek bars in the top 50 list and positions 51-100 with considerable consistency. In fact, this is another point of focus that remains at an excellent level in Greece.

Line, therefore, by Vassilis Kyritsis, Nikos Bakulis and Dimitris Dafopoulos, is now in 6th place (12th place last year), during its third year of operation, consistently following a modern philosophy based on sustainability and zero food waste.

In 17th place, we find Baba Au Rum by Thanos Prounaros (25th place last year).

The beloved bar returned to the top 20, showing that despite its 15-year history, it has elements that make it stand out compared to other Athenian bars, proving that it is deservedly – and timelessly – at the top of the planet.

A few days earlier, the 51-100 list of the important institution was published, where 3 Athenian bars were among the best in the world.

The institution of The World’s 50 Best Bars

This is one of the most important institutions in the sector, which started at the end of the ’10s. The anonymous committee that votes on the awards consists of more than 700 independent experts in spirits and cocktails and famous bartenders.
