The parade of military and civil forces began at 11:00 on Monday on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue, with National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias representing the government. The parade was also attended by Cyprus Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas.

A grand military parade held before President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou in Thessaloniki on Monday will be the culmination of events commemorating the city’s ‘triple’ celebrations, which combine the October 28 national holiday with the anniversary of Thessaloniki’s liberation and the feast of St. Demetrius, the city’s patron saint.

Earlier, President Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath at the 3rd Army Corps Memorial.The October 28 holiday commemorates Greece’s victorious war against Italian forces in 1940, at the start of WWII.
