In a moving display, the Evzones of the Presidential Guard raised the Greek flag to mark the start of the day’s commemorative events honouring Greece’s historic “Oxi Day.”

This morning at 8:00, Greece officially began its national Oxi Day commemorations with the traditional flag-raising ceremony on the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis.

In a moving display, the Evzones of the Presidential Guard raised the Greek flag to mark the start of the day’s commemorative events honouring Greece’s historic “Oxi Day.”

Attendees gathered at the Acropolis witnessed the Presidential Guard raise the flag while the Greek national anthem played, setting a solemn tone for the national holiday. The flag-raising marks the first event in a series of celebrations across Greece to honour October 28, a day that commemorates Greece’s refusal to submit to Axis demands in 1940.
