Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on Thursday afternoon at the Maximos Mansion. Christodoulides had just arrived from the US following a meeting with President Joe Biden.
Mitsotakis highlighted that “the United States recognizes that the time has come for a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. This acknowledgment adds significant momentum to recent developments.”
He noted the importance of this meeting, the first with a US President in 28 years for both Cyprus and Cypriot President. Mitsotakis expressed confidence that it underscores the strategic relationship Cyprus has established with the US, complementing Greece’s own strategic ties.
Christodoulides updated Mitsotakis on his discussions with Biden, emphasizing the key recognition of the roles that both Cyprus and Greece play in the region. He expressed his satisfaction with the strategic approach, stating that is yielding results and gaining recognition. “There is no room for hesitation in foreign policy. We are on the right side of history, and this certainly enhances our efforts for a resolution to the Cyprus issue during this critical time,” Christodoulides concluded.
