Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Thanassis Kontogeorgis spoke of the Greek-US relations and the Greek-Turkish relations in an interview with TV OPEN on Tuesday.
On the Greek-Turkish relations, he reaffirmed that the “framework of the (Greek-Turkish) dialogue is defined” adding that “indeed we desire calm waters especially at a time when there is a war in Ukraine, a war in the Middle East. The southeast pillar of the NATO should remain strong for many reasons, there should be calmness in the region, something that is in the interest of both the USA and Europe.” Additionally “it is in Europe’s interest to make a step towards its autonomy in energy, economy and defence, especially in this period.”
On the Greek-US relations, he said that there “is a strategic depth in this relation which ensures the country’s interests.” In parellel, “there is the international conjucture that strengthens this position. Whoever is the next US President, the Greek government will cooperate in good faith.” However “our policy is not affected by others, relations are progressing; as long as you strengthen your country, this is taken into account by all countries.”
