Following their meeting, Dendias highlighted the strategic importance of defence cooperation, which was solidified through a 2019 agreement. “We discussed how to strengthen these relations further and organize joint exercises in the future,” he said.
Dendias also took the opportunity to thank Serbia for its support during Greece’s wildfires in August and its recent assistance during fires in the northern region of Kavala. He expressed a desire to explore further collaboration between the defence industries of both nations.
The Greek defence minister reiterated Greece’s support for the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) and stressed the need for strong neighbourly relations in the Western Balkans. He also praised Serbia’s decision to prioritize its European Union membership, stating, “We welcome Serbia’s strategic choice to make the path to the European Union a priority.”
Dendias visited the Military Technical Institute of Serbia (VTI), where Deputy Minister of Defense Dr. Nenad Miloradovic gave him a guided tour. Dendias later wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “In the context of Greece-Serbia discussions on defence cooperation, the importance of developing innovations for defence technologies was again confirmed.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also welcomed Dendias, highlighting the significance of the strategic partnership and friendship between the two countries. The visit concluded with a lunch hosted by Gacic to cement the ties between Greece and Serbia further.
