Greece will have the strongest Armed Forces in its history by 2030, providing highest-level security for Greek citizens and society, National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias asserted on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Piraeus Marine Club, Dendias said the threats Greece faced currently “are in no way similar to the threats we faced in the previous century. That is why it needs decisiveness, braveness, a clear sight, and assuming the political cost,” particularly in terms of the Hellenic Navy and in deterrence in the Aegean.
Dendias also said that “Greece has changed dogma” and “will create a full antimissile dome that will cover the Greek territory at various levels.” This will happen with mobile units using the 2,400 islands Greece has, besides the continental territory.
He also said that a Greek antidrone system named ‘Kentavros’ (Centaur) has been created and tested in the East Aegean and then in real field conditions on the Greek frigates in the Red Sea. “It is the antidrone system that took down two drones you saw on a Dutch video,” and will be installed in all four MEKO frigates Greece owns, Dendias noted.
