Deputy FM Kotsiras: Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad is the first comprehensive strategy on the diaspora

Kotsiras spoke during the presentation of the ministry’s Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad 2024-2027, during which Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis also spoke and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended.

The deputy FM said that the series of measures implemented by the government show the significance the government gives to Greeks abroad, starting with voting rights in the European Parliament elections and moving to digitization of consular services and other actions. New technologies and digital developments have contributed to the Strategic Plan, a ‘live text’ that will be constantly updated and new data incorporated, Kotsiras dded.

Some of the actions the plan foresees or in progress are the following: the registry of Greek organizations abroad, the site Diaspora.gr, the career training of young Greeks abroad in public and private agencies in Greece, and collaborations with higher academic institutions such as the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Simon Fraser University in Canada for Greek language classes in physical presence or online.

Also speaking was Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy Secretary General Maira Myrogianni, who referred to the Greek Youth Diaspora Symposium and Youth Diaspora Ambassadors programs, as well as other programs promoting and supporting Greek women of the diaspora.
