A series of events on the theme “Art in the Fight against Gender Violence” will be hosted in Athens from November 18 to 25. This is Orange Week Athens, organised by the Municipality of Athens, in collaboration with the Center for Combating Gender-Based Violence and Multiple Discrimination of the Municipality of Athens and on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25/ 11).
The city will be transformed into a point of awakening and action, inviting the public to participate and be informed through multi-level events, actions, information and awareness interventions, such as performances, screenings, concerts, art exhibitions and talks. All events will be free of charge as part of the United Nations’ global campaign to raise public awareness of the elimination of violence against women.
“Art can act as a catalyst for change. I invite all citizens of Athens, artists and creators to actively participate in this effort, in the fight against gender violence. Let’s all use the power of art to raise awareness, inspire and act,” the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, said and added: “Orange Week was designed to send a clear and powerful message: No tolerance. Violence against women and girls must end now.”
