A broad ministerial meeting was underway at the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry on Friday afternoon to prepare for the “ALEXANDROS” weather system. Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that the expert Risk Assessment Committee had met earlier in the day. During that meeting, he said, they were “informed that between Friday and late Saturday night, there will be heavy rain and local storms in most areas of the country.”
At the same time, the minister noted that in terms of the risk posed by the weather phenomena, areas on red alert include Thessaly, the northern Sporades islands, Evia and the region of Fthiotida, where from late on Friday until noon on Saturday there is a possibility of flooding and problems due to gale-force northeasterly winds. “We caution the local residents to be vigilant and, if necessary, follow the instructions of the authorities,” he added.
The ministerial meeting was chaired by Kikilias, with all the ministries with responsibility for civil protection attending, as well as representatives of the fire brigade, police, armed forces, local government, other bodies involved.
