“Prices around the world and in Greece have risen cumulatively for a three-year period. This budget responds to high prices by doubly supporting income. By reducing the burdens of households and businesses on the one hand and increasing wages on the other, which certainly takes some time, until the balance is restored,” he told his cabinet on Monday during the presentation of the budget.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said one of the main aims of the 2025 Greek budget has is to support the incomes of households against rising cost of living.

“I am well aware that products and services remain significantly more expensive than during the pandemic or even before the war in Ukraine and this is why I insist that the stimulation of disposable income and the purchasing power of households is a one-way street. For this reason the budget, while it concerns 2025, actually has 2027 as its horizon, so that these price hikes are offset and all that remains in effect are the steady [wage] raises each year,” he added.

Mitsotakis also said Greeks will end up with even fewer taxes by the end of his second term in office, primarily the middle class, with an average wage of 1,500 euros and a minimum wage of 950 euros.
