Greek ministers discussed on Tuesday the government’s national strategy to protect children from the dangers of unsupervised internet and digital addiction.

The strategy includes the introduction of a parental control platform that will likely affect children under 15. The platform will provide easy-to-understand instructions for parents to utilize the parental controls that are pre-installed on most mobile devices, that block specific websites and monitor their children’s online interactions. Another tool will be the Kids Wallet application, which, among other things, will allow for automatic verification of the user’s age.

The government has already imposed school restrictions on mobile phones as part of its efforts to protect minors.

Speaking before the meeting, Minister of State Akis Skertsos said the government wants to take measures that will be applicable, but acknowledged that for any measure to be successful it will require the collaboration of technology companies, social media platforms and parents.

The all details of the government’s national strategy will be presented on December 30.
