Greece has been selected to host the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Ancient Civilizations Forum in December 2025, following this year’s meeting in Yerevan, Armenia, which was attended by Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
The decision for Greece to take on the role of host was made unanimously by the members of the Forum.
The Ancient Civilizations Forum, established to foster collaboration among nations with rich cultural legacies, includes members such as Armenia, Bolivia, China, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Italy, and Peru. This year’s meeting was chaired by Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, and it resulted in the issuance of a joint declaration highlighting key initiatives and goals for future cooperation.
As the host for the next event, Greece plans to introduce several initiatives aimed at enhancing the Forum’s visibility and addressing critical issues such as the illegal trafficking of antiquities. Additionally, Greece seeks to promote the exchange of expertise in conservation, restoration, and the safeguarding of cultural heritage among member states. The country also intends to spearhead international cultural actions that will yield visible results in the protection and promotion of the member states’ shared cultural legacies.
The Ancient Civilizations Forum was first established in Athens in 2017, and it continues to serve as a platform for collaboration and dialogue between countries with significant historical and archaeological heritage. The upcoming 2025 meeting will further strengthen Greece’s role in international cultural diplomacy and its commitment to preserving the world’s ancient treasures.
