Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni has projected 2024 as a landmark year for the country's tourism sector, forecasting revenues to surpass an impressive €20 billion.

Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Kefalogianni highlighted Greece’s consistent growth and exceptional performance in tourism.

She emphasised that the sector not only sustained its momentum but also achieved remarkable results, with record-breaking performance in the first five months of the year and again during September and October. “We expect 2024 to close as the new record year for Greek tourism,” she stated confidently.

Looking ahead, Kefalogianni expressed optimism for 2025, noting that the early indicators for the upcoming year are already positive.

The minister also shed light on the new legislative initiatives from the Ministry of Tourism. She highlighted a bill introducing foundational regulations for short-term rentals, ensuring minimum operational and safety standards for the first time.

In addition, Kefalogianni unveiled plans for an innovative hotel classification system based on environmental performance. “This globally pioneering framework sets new benchmarks for sustainable practices in tourist accommodation,” she remarked.

The announcements reflect Greece’s ongoing commitment to bolstering its tourism sector, a vital pillar of the national economy, while integrating sustainability and safety into its growth strategy.
